PRINCE2 PROCESSES - Directing a Project (DP)

Directing a Project (DP)

This is the process that covers the Project Board’s involvement in decision making on the project. The Board members need to represent the three interests, Business, User and Supplier. This process runs from Start Up to Project Closure and ensures that the project has a controlled start, controlled progress and controlled close. This process enables the Project Board to manage by exception via the use of controls such as tolerance and time driven reports. The process covers five main areas

  • Authorising Initiation - Ensuring the project is viable and worthwhile entering initiation
  • Authorising a Project - Review of the PID and ensuring that the investment in the project is worth undertaking.
  • Stage Boundaries - Before committing money and resources to a next stage, ensuring a current stage has met objectives and the sufficient detail exists for the next stage.
  • Ad hoc Direction - Monitoring the stage progress, giving general advice and guidance where necessary, reacting to threats by examining and making decisions where required.
